Tips for a great engraving
- Short looks more elegant. Two names and a date often look better on wood than a long sentence.
- A date in DD.MM.YYYY format takes exactly 10 characters and leaves room for names.
- The middle dot “·” separates names and dates calmly and elegantly.
- Check the spelling: the text cannot be changed once production has started.

How much does engraving a chess set cost?
At Schachatelier nothing extra: engraving is included in the price of every personalisable chess set.
How many characters fit on the engraving?
Up to 30 characters including spaces – enough for two names with a date or a short dedication.
Where is the engraving placed?
Our craftsman decides the position for each set: directly in the wood where possible, otherwise on an elegant metal plaque. The engraving position in the product images is an example.
How long does delivery of an engraved chess set take?
In Germany, Austria and the EU usually approx. 3–7 business days. Engraving is done after your order is received and can occasionally add a few business days.
Can I return an engraved chess set?
Engraved items are made to order and are therefore excluded from the right of withdrawal. Statutory warranty rights for defects or transport damage of course still apply. Please check spelling and dates before placing your order.
What do you engrave on a chess set for a wedding?
A popular choice is both first names with the wedding date, for example “Anna & Max · 12.06.2027”, or a short line such as “A team since 2016”.
